Karl Alstaetter - was a surprise find for me when this series was discovered (via discount bins). His lines are so full of energy. His figures are huge but not overly chunky and his women ... are acceptable although they tend to be very bony thin hahahaha ... but that's for that era, eh?
And the colours on this? Wow! I mean check out the cover! Killer!
This issue is part of the Extreme corner's crossover event ... and it comes with an excellent recap page right on the first page so that we are all caught up on events as we moved on (See? Marvel? Have you forgotten that you used to do this very well too?)
Anyway, at this juncture, Bloodstrike is Cabbot Stone, an individual and no longer part of a team as it was when it was first launched. And Cabbot is having memory issues ala ole Wolverine. So while he is trying to figure out what the shit is going on, he is dragged by a mysterious group of heroes to embark on a mission to protect some good (New Men) and some bad (Warwolf) guys and gals for reasons we will find out as the series progresses
And at this very moment in time, Bloodstrike has allied himself with a handler named Gunther supported by the 2 ladies (we mentioned above) Athena/ Lily/ Bailout whichever is their real name (whatever - who cares, right?) although they are drawn very manga/ anime style and cute ... and a grumpy guy called Tower who we all know should bite the dust ASAP Hahahahahaha
Naturally as this is an Extreme book, cannon fodder are a plenty and they are well armoured but their only purpose is to shuffle around, get shot and scream death or dying screams. I kid you not. That's what all those chunky armored things or dudes do in this book - sort of too expensive eh to invest in such technology?
While all that is going on, we take a side step to show that the Extreme universe is multi-faceted and no storyline is linear ... kind of like the twists and unnecessary turns (sometimes) in Hong Kong movies ... so we see sexy lady Glory (Wonder Woman wannabe) from Amazonia (see?) being recruited by Roman (Namor wannabe) ... while unbeknownst to her, something horrific has already infected her own lands ...
And finally, to end this with 2 quick scene changes, we get a glimpse of an ultra baddie called Crypt (and if you do not know him from other books then there is no point going into a long winded explanation here as he pops up in the last panel only) and a couple of panels on Brigade for whatever that is worth as it doesn't contribute to the story in anyway ... sigh ... a good tale ... great art ... but the pacing in this issue is all over the place
