For you regular readers, you may be wondering why after our less than happy review just one review ago, why we are delving back into this particular run? Well ... because we decided that it cannot be all that bad, right? We so want to give them a chance and you know what? Yes, it can be that bad and even worse. Sigh!
SPOILER ALERT
First up, it's the same artist and inker and colorist. So you get exactly the same style of work with same amount of details and in short, very inspiring artwork. Hey guys! Like it or not, this is comics. Visuals is important and if at times we need a little posturing, go for it! So that there are WOW moments and not just "yet another day in the lives of ..." kind of artwork ... pedestrian is the most charitable description we can think of
As for storyline, guess what? New X-event! And in the past this would be a whoop whoop kind of point but not this time around because you see, at the end of the last issue, we get a one page forewarning that the threat they had defeated was not what was causing Blindfold her problems and distress and that something that looked like a city or tower is coming through the ether. So what happened here?
Well, it felt like you have to read some other comic before this issue is what and that sucked majorly because there is not even a recap. We start off with the X-Men looking so different and more characters yet again. They are busy fighting off some lame ass human threat and they called this the Age of X (as opposed to the earlier event of 2 decades ago Age of Apocalypse) ... and as the story progresses, we learnt that something happened to trigger all out war between humans and mutants ... and unfortunately for the mutants they are now living a live behind some mutant made barrier that needs to be refreshed nightly
Aside from that, we are also introduced to Kitty who in this world is a mystery figure ... and we are not given much more than that ... we are also shown her smuggling something from the world beyond their barrier back (flashes of Aeon Flux?)
And ... that's it. About the only unique bit about this tale is you know the bit about bad girls or good girls dressed skimpily? Well, here we have two of the five who built the barriers being blokes and they dressed skimpily exposing their chests while the women are dolled up. Hmm is the writer/ artist gay or ladies? Hehehehehe!
