This is a classic and one that I have read numerous times over the years. Why? Because it exudes the true-est sense of a comicbook. Over-the-top characters, lots of energy in the artwork, lots of unrealistic posing and snarling and ... that's why we read comics - escapism. So thanks Rob for an excellent first issue!
Basically this is a spin off from New Mutants ... Mutants are now growing up and finally ended at issue 100. This is the next series where we see almost all the Mutants gone and in their place a team that is grim, gritty and takes big guns to the faces of their enemies ...
And speaking of enemies, we are introduced to Stryfe (guy with huge complicated helmet design ala Galactus) ... and his flunkies the Mutant Liberation Front ... with some interesting and some ... hopeless members (the guy with multiple arms is merely big size and gets the floor each time they meet) ...
In this issue, we see the team being assembled to take down enemies and naturally the MLF is their first challenge. The main problem being that ex-Mutants' members, Skids and Fireboy Rusty are now members of MLF. So what do they do?
Fight
And FIGHT some more
That's the joy of reading a Rob comic - don't think too much, don't analyse - just have fun!
