222. X-Men vol 1 #1 ... Marvel ...

We were looking for something wonderful to review and is surprised to find this issue because apparently after all these 200 odd reviews, we have never touched on this! So since it is such a famous issue, let's do this one straight and to the point, eh?

First up, this came when Marvel recognizes that it has some of the hottest artists ever in the history of comics and decided, rightly enough to capitalize. Jim Lee who is already doing Uncanny X-Men is offered to start a new X-Men title here with issue 1 and 5 covers! While his regular slot on Uncanny is taken over by Whilce Portacio ... who is doing a stellar run on X-Factor while ... Rob Liefeld whose work has reinvigorated New Mutants ... is allowed to relaunch that title as X-Force ... and of course Todd Mc has launched a new Spider-Man title

See?

Lots of good stuff going on at that time

Storyline? Well, to fit the grand launch we have Magneto doing his next play ... and this time he has set up on Asteroid M his new home in space .... lording it over us all and threatening life on Earth by resurrecting the old submarine from his early days that has nuclear weapons

So the X-team has to figure out how to approach him in space to stop him while remaining undetected ... no easy task here people ... but this book just ROCKS!

Ratings: 8/10
